General Questions
Where do you fly?
Our flights launch from various sites on Albuquerque’s west mesa, just west of the Rio Grande. We drift over the high desert, through parts of the Rio Grande Bosque, and depending on winds, may pass over the river or neighborhoods as we head east toward the Sandia Mountains. Views include downtown Albuquerque, the Sandias, farmland, and often, other hot air balloons.
Can you steer a balloon?
Not exactly — balloons travel with the wind. However, pilots can steer vertically by adjusting altitude to catch wind currents that may be moving in slightly different directions. Albuquerque is famous for the ‘Albuquerque Box,’ which sometimes allows balloons to make gentle directional shifts.
What is the flight experience like?
Peaceful, calm, and surreal. There’s no sensation of movement since you’re floating with the wind. It’s quiet, stable, and doesn’t feel like you’re ‘high up’ in a traditional way. Most guests , even those afraid of heights find ballooning surprisingly comfortable and zen like.
How many people can fly at once?
We operate two commercial hot air balloons:
– UltraMagic 210B- pilot + 6-10 passengers. Two passenger areas with space for 5. (Balloon arriving May 2026!)
– Lindstrand 105A – pilot + 4–5 passengers
– Cameron Z-105 – pilot + 3–4 passengers
This means no big crowds or crammed baskets. Flights are intimate, relaxed, and personal.

Closed-toe shoes are required (no sandals or heels). Dress in layers — it’s cold before sunrise and warms up quickly. Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are also recommended.
Can I bring a camera?
Yes — and we encourage it! Just make sure it’s secured with a wrist or neck strap if possible.
Are there restrooms?
There are no restrooms in the balloon, so please use the bathroom before check-in. We’ll ensure you have access to one before launch and after landing.
Safety & Accessibility
Is ballooning safe?
Yes. We are FAA-certified, commercially licensed, and prioritize safety over everything. We only fly in safe weather conditions and maintain our equipment to the highest standards.
What about bad weather?
If conditions are unsafe — wind, visibility, storms — we cancel and offer a full refund or rescheduling.
Are there age or health restrictions?
Minimum age: 5 years. Passengers must be able to stand for about an hour and climb into and out of the basket. No pregnant passengers. If you have health concerns, consult your doctor.
What about weight limits?
Passengers over 270 lbs may be asked to book a private flight or purchase an additional seat to ensure safe weight distribution for flight safety. We ask for passenger weights at booking to plan accordingly.
How do we get in and out of the basket?
Most baskets have built-in footholds to step over the side. However, we also have a basket with a door for easier access. Our crew assists everyone during boarding and landing.
